RIM-67 ER Launch Checklist

Motor Assembly - Booster

 

O 1 Check components and review assembly instructions

O 2 Lubricate components

O 3 Assemble motor per manufacturer specifications

O 4 Prepare igniter

O     a.   Dipped DaveyFire

O     b.  1/8" dowel rod

O     c.  1/2" masking tape

O 5. Install motor into airframe and install aluminum retaining ring

 

Motor Assembly – Sustainer

 

O 1 Check components and review assembly instructions

O 2 Lubricate components

O 3 Assemble motor to meet air-start requirements

O     a.  Paint top fuel grain and delay with pryogen

O     b.  Wrap dipped DaveyFire with thermalite

O     c.  Insert thermalite into top grain to hold igniter at top of motor

O     d.  Pass leads through fuel grains

O     e.  Continue assembly of motor per manufacturer specifications

O 4 Install 75 motor into sustainer

O 5 Install motor retaining ring

 

Avionics – Booster

 

O 12 Install fresh 9V batteries into the Missile Works RRC2 and ARTS units

O 13 Ensure RRC2 switches are set properly

O 14 Check continuity and resistance of ejection charges

O 15 Ensure key switch is in to "220V" position

O 16 Make final wiring connections to the electronics

O     a.  Ensure apogee charge and ARRD release charge are wired properly

O     b.  Attach ARRD to bulkhead using ¼-28 bolt

O 17 Mount and secure the electronics mounting board in the avionics bay

O 18 Install bulkhead plate of avionics bay and secure with two ¼ " wing nuts, flat washers and lock washers on the twin steel bulkhead ¼-20 threaded rod

O 19 Arm the electronics and verify ejection charge continuity by turning switch to "110V" position (When arming two pieces of electronics)

O 20 Turn switch to "220V" position to "Safe"

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Avionics – Sustainer

 

O 21 Install fresh 9V batteries into blacksky ALTAAC2C and Missile Works PET 2

O 22 Ensure ALTAAC 2C settings and PET 2 DIP switches are set properly

O 23 Check continuity and resistance of ejection charges

O 24 Ensure key switch is in to "OFF" position

O 25 Make final wiring connections to the electronics

O     a.  Ensure apogee charge and ARRD charges are wired properly

O     b.  Attach ARRD to electronics bay bulkhead using 1/4-28 bolt

O     c.  Wire stage separation charges to timer

O     d.  Wire sustainer motor igniter to timer

O 26 Mount and secure electronics mounting board in avionics bay

O 27 Install bulkhead plate of avionics bay and secure with 1/4" wing nuts, flat washers and lock washers on the twin steel 1/4-20 threaded rods

O 28 Arm the electronics and verify ejection charge continuity by turning switch to the "110V" position

O 29 Verify blacksky ALTAAC2C continuity at the tower

O 30 Turn switch to "220V" position to "Safe"

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Recovery System – Booster

 

O 31 Inspect all harnesses, anchor points, and ARRD components and connections

O 32 Attach Y-bridle to anchor points and inspect quick links to ensure they are closed

O 33 Pack the 72" and the 120" Spherachute parachute into the into modified deployment bag leaving connection quick links for both chutes out of bag

O 34 Add rubber bands to deployment bag and ensure rubber band release ripcord is attached to anchor point

O 35 Attach main parachute shroud line to lower section Y-bridle using quick link

O 36 Attach lower link of modified deployment bag to ARRD D-ring

O 37 Attach drogue shock cord to upper link on deployment bag

O 38 Loop and tape drogue lines for storage and deployment

O 39 Attach NOMEX heat shield to drogue shock cord above the ejection charge

O 40 Install Y-harness into transition section

O 41 Attach transition section Y-bridle to transition section shock cord

O 42 Attach 72" parachute to upper link of modified deployment bag.

O 43 Attached main section drogue line to deployment bag

O 44 Loop and tape drogue lines for storage and deployment

O 45 Wrap 24" drogue parachute with NOMEX cloth

O 46 Assemble booster

 

Recovery System – Sustainer

 

O 47 Inspect all harnesses, anchor points, and ARRD components and connections

O 48 Attach Y-bridle to anchor points and inspect quick links to ensure they are closed

O 49 Pack 60"and 96" Spherachute parachute into modified deployment bag

O 50 Add rubber bands to deployment bag

O 51 Attach main parachute to Y-bridle using quick link

O 52 Attach lower link of modified deployment bag to ARRD D-ring

O 53 Attach drogue shock cord to upper link on deployment bag

O 54 Loop and tape drogue lines for storage and deployment

O 55 Attach NOMEX heat shield to drogue shock cord above the ejection charge

O 56 Install Y-harness on nose cone

O 57 Attach nose cone Y-bridle to shock cord

O 58 Attach drogue parachute to drogue line

O 59 Attached main section drogue line to 60" parachute

O 60 Loop and tape drogue lines for storage and deployment

O 61 Wrap drogue parachute with NOMEX cloth

O 62 Assemble sustainer

 

Preparations for Flight

 

O 60 Complete flight card

O 61 Complete RSO inspection and signature

O 62 Transport rocket to tower launcher

 

At the Tower

 

O 63 Place the booster on the launch rail

O 64 Line up interstage and install sustainer stage on top of booster

O 65 Strap rocket to tower and raise tower to launch position

O 66 Install booster motor igniter

O 67 Arm booster and sustainer electronics by turning switches to "110V" position

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

O 68 Verify Missile Works RRC2 and WRC2 are armed

O 69 Arm ALTAAC 2C using screwdriver

O 70 Verify ALTAAC 2C is armed

O 71 Verify launch system is in "Safe Mode"

O 72 Verify that no current to launch lead clips by touching together

O 73  Attach clips to igniter

O 74 Verify motor igniter continuity

O 75 Re-verify all electronics and igniters have continuity

O 76 Take many pre-launch pictures

 

At LCO Table

 

O 77 Turn in Flight Card

O 78 Verify still cameras are ready

O 79 Verify camcorders are ready

O 80 Verify spotters are ready

O 81 Try not to look nervous

O 82 Pray for a successful flight

 

Post Flight

 

O 83 Recover rocket

O 84 Celebrate flight

O 85 Download ALTAAC and ARTS data

O 86 Record RRC2 data

O 87 Review launch video

O 88 Enjoy the moment

O 89 Publish flight log

O 90 Update website
